Murals for Palacios

Dayton and Sandra Wodrich, of Independence, Texas, came to Palacios in June to begin painting murals.  They are about to finish the 6th one.  Here is Dayton putting some finishing touches on the latest mural, depicting the  cultures which make up this great city.  This mural is located on City Hall, 4th St.

Lasalle Mural
This mural, located on the side of Marilyn's Printing, Main St., depicts LaSalle's ship, the "Belle," and the 3 palaces that folklore says that men saw when first coming to the area - hence, "Tres Palacios."

This mural shows a representation of the many birds which can be seen in this area.  This mural is on The Point, located on Business 35, 600 1st St.

Shrimping Industry
On the side of the newly remodeled building, which houses Terry's Lopez's Hair Gallery and Hollister Insurance, Main St., can be found a representation of the shrimping industry, which is the primary industry in Palacios.  Palacios ranks as one of the largest shrimping port on the Texas coast.

The mural located on the Palacios Recreation Center, at 2401 Perryman, depicts the way Palacios looked in the early 1900's, with the Pavilion, Baptist Encampment, and sailing vessels.

Farming and ranching are also a large industry for this area.  IGA Supermarket, Main, has a mural which shows the maize, cotton, cattle, and rice fields in the area.
